Exotic Cipher are back with the sophomore act of their anti DJs crusade.
While their first opus constantly oscillated from darkness to dankness, in “What DJs Actually Do On Stage (Fake DJs Compilation)” the PHS co-founders lean towards the former, presenting you an even hazier version of their signature neo-concrete experiments.
If the fuel of “DJs Want Loud Masters (Cos DJs Are Idiots”) was a blend of twisted EDM and TikTok trends, in this record the duo showcases a bleak pastiche of spoken word and hyperrealistic p0rn textures, creating a polar opposite to your average pleasant ASMR fruition conceptually close to the work of contemporary gore masters like Ronce and Perila.
Since the very beginning of the record, the listening experience is akin to a prolonged Wet Willy. You are subject to a constant ebb and flow of moans, random podcasts and a whole microgalaxy of tongue sounds. At times it feels almost arousing, mostly it is like being awoken by hot breath in your ears while you are home alone.
Feeling very close sounds might cause you spine tinglings, whilst Exotic Cipher place you TOO close to some sort of sleazy scenario you are not entirely sure you want to spectate, but you feel morbidly compelled to.
